THE SHORT ANSWER
You do not have to restart to continue an Early Access save, according to the October 13 launch FAQ. Starting over is the studio's recommendation for players who want to see the improved world and first hours.
Keep the save or restart?
- Continue your saveThe launch FAQ says Early Access saves can be converted to the new format and used in 1.0.
- Start a new worldKeen Games says the world and first few hours were improved, and strongly encourages a new start if you are up for it.
- Still deciding? There is no official requirement in the cited FAQ to abandon an existing save. Choose based on whether a refreshed opening matters more than continuing your current progress.

What the FAQ confirms
Save conversion
The studio says Early Access saves are usable after release and will be converted to a newer format. The FAQ does not describe a manual migration workflow or promise that every damaged save can be recovered.
PC ownership
If you own the PC Early Access version, the launch FAQ says you do not need to buy the PC game again for 1.0.
Skills and progression
The release changelog announces a skill-tree reset. Treat the in-game skill screen as the source of your current points and descriptions after updating. This guide does not assume that an old build stays unchanged.
A careful return
- Check that the game and any shared server are on a compatible version before loading a world.
- If you prefer to preserve a particular world or character, make a separate backup before migration. This is a general precaution, not a special migration step stated by Keen Games.
- After loading, confirm your character, inventory, base and skill allocation in-game. Hotfix 1.0.0.3 changes how some invalid backpack entries and off-grid Flame Altars are migrated.
- Use the current official patch notes if a character is missing or a world behaves unexpectedly; do not rely on an old workaround without checking its date.
Check the patch date
The save advice above comes from official notices dated October 13, 14, 16 and 21, 2026. The latest captured migration information is hotfix 1.0.0.3. Later updates can change this behavior. The notes are not a substitute for the current in-game result or a newer support announcement.
